Charles GainesCharles Gaines – Contractor with Miller Transporters Since 1998

Having been a professional driver for over 20 years, it is safe to say that Charles Gaines knows a lot about the trucking industry. Charles also knows a good thing when he sees it. Living in Vicksburg, Mississippi, Charles often would see Miller Transporters trucks on the road as well as frequently run into Miller drivers. “I would pass by their trucks a lot, and I always heard good things about them from other drivers…so driving for Miller seemed like a good opportunity,” explains Charles. Thirteen years later, Charles is happy that his initial instincts about Miller were correct. There is not a day that he would trade the decision he made to make the “good move” to Miller.

“Miller is a lot different from other companies. They see that I’m a Contractor, but rather than look at me as just a name or a number, they see me a partner,” says Charles. Not only does Miller look at their contractors as business partners, they also go out of their way to help them succeed. “Miller helps get you started in your business. They do everything they can to ensure that, if you’re willing to put in the work and effort, that you will be successful,” adds Charles.

Miller is also great about helping people who want to own their own truck realize that dream. “If you want to own a truck, you can come here and get a truck and pay for it while working with no money down. Most companies require money down,” explains Charles.

“In a nutshell, if you want to become an Owner Operator, Miller is the best place to come,” exclaims Charles. Charles appreciates all of the opportunities that his career at Miller Transporters has afforded him over the years, and he looks forward to many more. “I LOVE this company! I’m not going anywhere. I will be here forever,” says Charles.

Pat ClydePat Clyde – Tractor Purchase Contractor Since 2007

Though Tractor Purchase Contractor Pat Clyde has only been with Miller Transporters for four years, he has been in the industry for nearly twenty years. Those twenty years in the industry have not only allowed Pat the opportunity to gain a lot of experience, but they have also allowed him to recognize what he really wants out of his truck driving career, as well as what kind of company he wants to drive for. After starting with Miller in 2007, it took him only a few days to realize that this is the kind of company he always dreamed of driving for.

Today, Pat is happily sitting behind the wheel of a truck he paid off about a year ago. “I was a company driver for over 12 years, and owning my own truck was always something I wanted to do. Other companies don’t offer the same kind of true tractor purchase plan that Miller does. At Miller, you are actually buying the truck, not leasing it like at most other companies. My name is on the title of the truck, and I couldn’t be prouder,” explains Pat.

Not only does Pat appreciate the opportunity he was given at Miller to actually buy, not lease, his truck, he truly values the way that Miller listens to and treats their drivers. “Miller has an absolutely fantastic open door policy. They really listen to their drivers. I get lots of great feedback from everyone on the Miller team,” says Pat. “Even more important to me is the amount of value that Miller puts on safety. At Miller, safety is far above the industry standard. With CSA coming on, it’s obvious that Miller has taken safety and our scores very seriously, and that makes me feel very confident about my career with Miller. They make sure our equipment is not only safe for the drivers, but for everyone out on the road,” adds Pat.

With all that Pat has already accomplished at Miller in just four years, it’s a safe bet that the future holds much more for Pat at Miller. Pat knows that driving for a company like Miller is the reason he’s been able to realize so many of his trucking career aspirations. “Miller totally backs and supports you and does everything they can do to keep you safe out on the roads and up-to-date on changes going on in the industry. Their communication with the drivers is outstanding and I know I’m not just a number to them. I am a name…in fact, my name is on my truck right alongside the Miller Transporters name,” exclaims Pat. “Honestly, I only wish I knew about this company years ago. I just can’t say enough about Miller. I suppose that’s why so many drivers stay here so long, and why I plan to do the same,” says Pat

Christine GrayChristine Gray – Tractor Purchase Contractor Since August of 2007

This year, Christine Gray will celebrate her 4th anniversary as a driver with Miller Transporters. Though she has been driving professionally for a total of 15 years, Christine says these past four years with Miller have been the best of her career. Perhaps they’ve been the best because Christine is now the proud owner of her own truck that she purchased through Miller’s $0 down tractor purchase program.

Christine first found out about Miller from one of her friends who had been at Miller for about 10 months. “My friend had always known that I wanted to own my own truck, and not only did he introduce me to Miller, he informed me about their $0 down tractor purchase program,” explains Christine. “I was watching how much money he was making and I realized that I, too, could have that earning potential if I had the opportunity,” adds Christine.

That opportunity soon became a reality when Christine started driving for Miller shortly thereafter. Incredibly, Christine paid off her truck in 3 ½ years! When asked how the whole tractor purchase process worked for her and how she was able to pay her truck off so fast, she matter-of-factly states, “Well, I worked my tail off. I took every load I could get to try and pay the truck off as fast as possible. It takes lots of hard work and dedication, and you should never give up, because you WILL reach your goal if you are willing to put the work into it.”

Christine has a lot of wonderful things to say about the 4 years she’s spent at Miller Transporters. One of the most important things to her is that she works with dispatchers Brian, Robert and Kevin, who are, as she explains, “hands-down, the absolute best in the country.” She describes Miller as having one of the most family-oriented environments she’s ever worked in, and she truly cherishes that aspect. She is so happy with her career at Miller Transporters that she can only find one negative thing to say, and that is that she regrets not knowing about Miller sooner. “Honestly, I wish I’d have come to Miller a long time ago. I couldn’t ask for a better company to work for.”

Willie HillWillie Hill – Company Driver with Miller Transporters Since 1983

It is quite rare for someone to work for the same company for ten, or even twenty years. Working for the same company for almost 28 years is even less common. It takes a dedicated, driven individual to accomplish such a feat. For Miller Transporters Company Driver Willie Hill, it’s a simple explanation as to why he’s remained with Miller since 1983. “When you work for a good company, you don’t want to leave. They have been good to me. Almost my whole career has been with Miller,” explains Willie.

The day that Willie first drove a Miller truck was the day that his childhood dream had finally come true. Growing up, he would visit his Aunt who lived down the street from a Miller terminal. Whenever he would pass by it, he would dream about one day having a career as a truck driver for Miller. “I didn’t have much experience when I first came to Miller looking for a job, but they were willing to give me a chance. 28 years later, I can’t tell you how grateful I am that they gave me that chance,” says Willie.

Though when he first started with Miller, Willie liked to be home more often to spend time with his then-young children, he now enjoys spending most of his time behind the wheel. “I really enjoy working out on the road. It’s the right fit for me. There’s good equipment, and most importantly, most of the shippers are nice and respectful, which I feel has a lot to do with the Miller name. The Miller name has a great reputation in the industry and I’m proud to drive for them,” explains Willie.

Not only does he love the driving part of his job, but he also loves the people at Miller that he gets to work with. “The people here have been great to me from day one! I can’t believe that any other company has people that are as outstanding as the ones I get to work with at Miller,” says Willie. Even when there was some personnel changes within the company (which is to be expected over an almost 30 year span), Willie remained just as happy and impressed with Miller. “Any changes that we’ve been through with people have all been good. In my opinion, the way you define a good company is by the way that their staff treats its employees…even when changes take place,” adds Willie.

It’s no surprise that when asked what he loved most about driving for Miller, Willie laughs and says, “Honestly, I know I keep repeating myself, but I really, truly love this company and I can’t imagine working anywhere else!”
